How to install a Google Now launcher on Non-Nexus devices!

Last year in October, Google announced its latest update to Android known as Kitkat 4.4, which has now been updated to Kitkat 4.4.2. With this update came a slew of new and refreshing features which at that time were specific only to the Nexus 5. One of them was Google Experience launcher whom I've already praised for its simplicity and swiftness in one of my articles
.

A few weeks ago Google decided to extend the Google Experience launcher to the other Nexus devices and Google Play devices only. They also changed the name to Google Now launcher. This Google Now launcher is now available on the Play Store but only limited to Nexus and Google Play devices. Well, that's the irony since Google Now launcher is one of the most amazing launcher out there and provides the pure vanilla Android experience.

So friends, if you happen to be a fan of pure Android experience and happen to not own a nexus or Google Play device, I'm here to guide you on how you can install this eloquent Google Now launcher on your device and enjoy its virtues.

Follow these steps:

  • Download Google home APK from here.
  • Download Velvet APK from here.
  • Download PrebuiltGmsCore APK from here.

After you have downloaded these three files, then go on and allow the unknown sources from your settings as I've explained in my article How to sideload apps on Android Phone.

Now go to the file manager and open the folder to which you have downloaded these apps, default folder is always 'Download' folder. Install all the three files, one by one. If you are already running the latest version of Google Search than Velvet apk might not work but your launcher will be installed successfully. You can then open the launcher from the App drawer and start enjoying it.

If you are already running Kitkat on your Android device, you may only need to download the Google home APK. But, I'd recommend downloading all three and installing them anyway.

Well, that's it folks! If you come across any problem during the process, mention it in the comments and I'll do my best to help you.
